Inside a Materials Recycling Facility (MRF = Rhymes with Smurf!)

The recycling loop begins by our sorting and sending paper, plastics, metals, glass, and more to be picked up by our haulers and ends with our purchasing things made from those recyclables. There are a LOT of steps in between, beginning with the Materials Recovery Facility, or MRF (pronounce it "murf"). The MRF is the first stop those single-stream recyclables make after they leave your home or business.
